At Heckfield Place, the challenge was to design a spa and treatment centre within a landscape of profound beauty and historical significance. Situated within a listed estate, the building nestles into the grounds, with the architecture blending seamlessly into the landscape. The curvilinear form of the spa follows the contours of the land, gently merging with the natural surroundings.

A walk to the spa takes you through the woods, past the lake, and down steps that follow a gently meandering brook. The building itself is discreet, with a roof covered in plants, visible only from the sinuous edge that mirrors the curves of the watercourse below. Inside, the spa rooms are circular and paneled in warm timber, engaging with the landscape and offering views of the intimate valley. The experience of this space is defined by the sounds of the brook and the surrounding natural life, creating an immersive, restorative environment that is at once part of the landscape and a refuge from it.
