The original building had been extensively extended over time and had become curiously detached from the sea. The idea was to restore the original ‘cubic’ form of the Victorian building and set it against a similarly proportioned modern cube. To gain agency over the sea view we raised the ground floor by two feet.

We cleared the The design entailed completely remodelling the villa while replacing the incongruous extensions with a new wing that echoed the proportions and volume of the original. The new wing, an open-ended glazed concrete box with a flat roof, provides a dramatic vantage point over the sea. A central glass link connects the old and new parts of the house, creating a flow from formal spaces to informal, light-filled areas. This composition allows the house to retain its original charm while responding to the needs of modern living, enhancing the connection between interior and exterior.
