The most gratifying win for our collaboration headquartered in my office in London. As the rank outsiders we pushed the boat out and together played with complex geometries, impossible structures and proposed a floating in gardens sequel to the Paris behemoth…and won. The winning design carried to completion by Shigeru and Jean was inaugurated in May 2010 and houses both permanent and temporary exhibitions from the Musée National d’Art Moderne. Conceived as a massive pavilion with a vast woven timber roof.

Beneath the dramatic structure, three expansive, cantilevered galleries offer the ideal conditions for the museum’s collection. These galleries outwards, framing telescopic views of the distant Cathedral, creating an intimate dialogue between the new and old.
