This project sought to create a private cinema that blended seamlessly with an 18th-century farmhouse, allowing the space to function both as a place for entertainment and as a study. The challenge was to avoid introducing a stark, modern structure to the garden, so instead, we introduced a barrel-vaulted cinema space clad in copper and timber. Suspended on two pin joints, the structure hovers dramatically above the main house, giving the illusion of a proscenium arch.

Inside, the design offers a multi-functional space. When not in use as a cinema, the room can transform into a study, with shutters opening to let in natural light. The space is controlled through cedar shutters and dark green military twill walls, creating the perfect atmosphere for both screenings and focused work. A dry-stone wall was also introduced to mediate between the old and new, ensuring that the extension did not overwhelm the existing structure while providing a protected, enclosed entrance courtyard.
